Cuemark is built so that your scripts and shows stay on your own computer. This page says what we do hold — your account, your licence, and a little about the machines it runs on — why, for how long, who helps us hold it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
Cuemark We are the controller of the personal data on this page. Write to us about it at us, or by post at the address above.
What we hold, and why
| What | Why | Our lawful basis | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your account: email address, name if you give one, a scrambled form of your password (never the password itself), when you joined and last signed in | So you can sign in, download Cuemark and manage your licence | Contract | Until you delete it. An account with no licence that has not been used for two years is deleted automatically |
| Your licence: the key, what kind it is, when it ends | To provide what you paid for | Contract | While it runs, then seven years |
| The machines a licence is on: a random ID Cuemark makes for each computer, the computer's name (as set in its settings), when it was activated and last checked in | To count machines against the licence, and so you can see and free them yourself | Contract | Until you free the machine, or two years after it last checked in |
| Payments: amount, date, your name and email, and Stripe's reference. Your card details go to Stripe, never to us | To issue your licence, handle refunds, and keep the accounts the law requires | Contract; legal obligation | Seven years |
| Downloads: which installer, and when | To know who is trying Cuemark, so we can help them and improve it | Legitimate interests | Two years |
| Problem reports you send from the app: what you write, your email if you give it, the app version, the kind of computer, recent error messages, and a screenshot of the Cuemark window unless you leave it out | To fix the problem and reply to you | Legitimate interests | In our support mailbox for as long as we need it to help, and no longer than two years |
| Emails you send us | To answer you | Legitimate interests | No longer than two years after the conversation ends |
| Cuemark Connect sharing: a name you choose for each computer, the production's title, each member's name, role and kind (cast, creative or crew), and the title and note on anything sent. The shows and files themselves are encrypted on your computer and we cannot read them | To pass shows and notes between the people in a production | Contract | Files: until everyone has collected them, and never more than 30 days. Someone who leaves or is taken out: 30 days. A computer in no production and not seen for two years: deleted |
| Beta testers only: that you are one | To send you each new beta | Legitimate interests | Until you press Stop beta emails on your account page, or ask us |
| Security: your internet address, and a scrambled form of an email address, against a count of attempts | To stop password guessing and floods of email | Legitimate interests | A day or two |
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or send marketing emails. Every email we send is about your account, your licence, a purchase, or — if you are one — a new beta.
The app
Your scripts, cues and notes are files on your computer and never leave it unless you send them. Cuemark goes online only to:
- check for a new version (nothing about you or your shows is sent);
- activate and check your licence, about once a month (the key, the machine's random ID and its name);
- share through Cuemark Connect, when you use it (encrypted on your computer first);
- send a problem report, when you press Send.
There is no tracking, analytics or crash reporting in the app.
Cuemark Cast, the phone app
Cuemark Cast keeps everything on your phone: your scripts, the part you play, your notes, and any recordings you make of your lines. It goes online only to:
- join a production through Cuemark Connect, when you use it: the name you type is shown to that production's stage manager, and scripts and notes are encrypted on the phone before they are sent (see Cuemark Connect above);
- ask the App Store about a subscription, when you take one.
The microphone is used only when you choose Record my lines, or Listen in Run lines. The recordings stay on your phone until you delete them or the script; Listen hears you on the phone itself, with the iPhone's own speech recognition, and keeps nothing. The voices that read the other parts, your Personal Voice if you allow it, and the reading of scanned pages all run on the phone itself. Subscriptions are bought and managed through Apple: we never see your payment details, and the app asks the App Store, on the phone, only whether a subscription is active. There is no account, tracking, analytics or advertising in Cuemark Cast.
This website
The site sets no cookies. Signing in keeps a session in your browser's tab storage, which is cleared when you close the tab or sign out. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not track you across sites; it is switched off on the account and admin pages.
Who helps us
These companies hold or handle data for us, under contracts that require them to protect it:
- Cloudflare — runs this website and the licence service, and stores the account database and installers;
- Stripe — takes payments. Stripe may also act as the seller of record for tax, in which case it handles your payment data under its own privacy notice;
- Our email providers — our web host's mailbox, and Resend, which send and receive our email;
- Anthropic — beta testers only: the beta test checklist is a page hosted by Anthropic (Claude), and what you tick or type there is held by them.
Some of these are based in the United States or store data there. Where they do, the transfer is covered by the UK's adequacy regulations for the US Data Privacy Framework, or by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to their standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
You can ask us, free of charge:
- for a copy of what we hold about you — or press Download my data on your account page;
- to correct anything that is wrong;
- to delete it — or press Delete my account on your account page. A licence that is still running, and payment records the law makes us keep, stay until their time is up;
- to stop or limit how we use it, or object to our using it for our legitimate interests;
- to have it sent to you in a form you can take elsewhere.
Email us. We answer within a month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113 — but please let us try to put it right first.
Keeping it safe
Passwords are stored only as a salted, slow hash. Sign-in links work once and expire. Everything travels over HTTPS. Shared shows are encrypted on your computer before they leave it. Found a security problem? Tell us at us — see security.txt.
Children
Cuemark is for people working in theatre and events, and is not meant for children under 13.
Changes
If we change what we collect or why, we will update this page and its date, and tell account holders by email about anything significant.
